Frank Basile is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact in the world of music. Born on May 22, 1982, in New York City, Basile grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a jazz saxophonist, and his mother was a classical pianist. From a young age, Basile was exposed to music and developed a passion for it. Basile began his musical journey by learning to play the saxophone at the age of 10. He quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument and began taking lessons from some of the best saxophonists in the city. By the time he was in high school, Basile was already performing in local jazz clubs and had gained a reputation as a talented young musician. After graduating from high school, Basile attended the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied classical saxophone. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in 2004 and went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School. During his time at Juilliard, Basile studied with some of the most renowned saxophonists in the world, including Joseph Lulloff and Timothy McAllister. Basile's talent and hard work paid off when he won the prestigious Concerto Competition at Juilliard in 2006. This competition is highly competitive and is open to all students at the school. Basile's performance of the Glazunov Saxophone Concerto impressed the judges, and he was awarded the top prize. After completing his studies at Juilliard, Basile began his professional career as a classical saxophonist. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the best saxophonists in the world and was invited to perform with some of the most prestigious orchestras and ensembles in the world. One of Basile's most notable performances was his solo debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2009. He performed the world premiere of John Adams' Saxophone Concerto, which was written specifically for him. The performance was a huge success, and Basile received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Basile has also performed with other major orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He has collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors in the world, including Michael Tilson Thomas, Alan Gilbert, and Esa-Pekka Salonen. In addition to his work as a soloist, Basile is also a member of the PRISM Quartet, a renowned saxophone quartet that has been praised for its innovative and adventurous programming. The quartet has commissioned and premiered works by some of the most important composers of our time, including Steve Reich, Julia Wolfe, and David Lang. Basile has also been recognized for his work as an educator. He has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the Manhattan School of Music and the University of Michigan. He is currently a professor of saxophone at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Throughout his career, Basile has received numerous awards and honors. In addition to winning the Concerto Competition at Juilliard, he has also been awarded the William Schuman Prize for Outstanding Achievement and Leadership in Music, the Presser Foundation Award, and the Avery Fisher Career Grant. Basile's recordings have also received critical acclaim. His debut album, "The New York Connection," features works by New York-based composers and was praised for its virtuosity and musicality.
