Andrew Gold was an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who was born on August 2, 1951, in Burbank, California. He was the son of popular film composer Ernest Gold and singer Marni Nixon, who was known for her work as a ghost singer in Hollywood films. Andrew grew up in a musical family and began playing piano at a young age. He later learned to play guitar, bass, drums, and other instruments. Andrew's musical career began in the late 1960s when he formed a band called Bryndle with three other musicians. The band released an album in 1970, but it failed to gain much attention. Andrew then joined Linda Ronstadt's backing band and played on several of her albums, including "Heart Like a Wheel" and "Prisoner in Disguise." He also co-wrote the hit song "You're No Good" with Ronstadt. In 1975, Andrew released his debut solo album, "Andrew Gold," which included the hit single "Lonely Boy." The song reached number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and helped the album reach gold status. Andrew's second album, "What's Wrong with This Picture?," was released in 1976 and included the hit single "Never Let Her Slip Away," which reached number five on the UK Singles Chart. Andrew continued to release albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s, but he never achieved the same level of commercial success as his early albums. However, he remained a respected musician and worked with many other artists, including James Taylor, Carly Simon, and Art Garfunkel. In addition to his work as a musician, Andrew was also a prolific songwriter and producer. He co-wrote the theme song for the television show "The Golden Girls" and produced albums for artists such as Nicolette Larson and Stephen Bishop. Andrew's musical talents were recognized with several awards and nominations throughout his career. In 1977, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist. He also received a Grammy nomination for his work on Linda Ronstadt's album "Simple Dreams." In 1980, he won an Emmy Award for his work on the television show "The Rockford Files." Andrew continued to perform and record music until his death on June 3, 2011, at the age of 59. He was remembered by his fans and fellow musicians as a talented and versatile artist who made a significant contribution to the world of music.
