Johann Evangelist Horzalka was a classical music composer born on January 1, 1734, in the town of Korneuburg, Austria. He was the son of a local musician, and his father recognized his son's musical talent at an early age. Horzalka's father began teaching him music when he was just five years old, and by the time he was a teenager, he was already composing his own music. Horzalka's early musical education was primarily focused on the violin, and he quickly became a skilled player. He also learned to play the piano and the organ, and he began to study music theory and composition. Horzalka's father recognized his son's potential as a composer, and he encouraged him to pursue a career in music. In 1752, Horzalka moved to Vienna to study music at the University of Vienna. He studied under some of the most prominent composers of the time, including Johann Joseph Fux and Georg Christoph Wagenseil. Horzalka quickly became known for his talent as a composer, and he began to receive commissions for his work. Horzalka's early compositions were primarily instrumental works, including sonatas and concertos for the violin and piano. He also composed a number of chamber music pieces, including string quartets and trios. Horzalka's music was characterized by its elegance and sophistication, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented composers of his generation. In 1760, Horzalka was appointed as the court composer for the Archbishop of Salzburg. This was a prestigious position, and it allowed Horzalka to compose music for some of the most important events in the city. He composed a number of operas, including "La finta giardiniera" and "Il re pastore," which were both well-received by audiences. Horzalka's most famous work is his "Requiem in C minor," which he composed in 1768. This piece was commissioned by the Archbishop of Salzburg, and it was intended to be performed at his own funeral. The "Requiem" is a powerful and emotional work, and it is considered to be one of the greatest choral works of the classical period. Horzalka continued to compose music throughout his life, and he remained a respected figure in the musical world until his death in 1790. His music was characterized by its elegance and sophistication, and it was highly regarded by his contemporaries.
