Peter Igelhoff was a German composer, pianist, and singer who was born on September 15, 1904, in Berlin, Germany. He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. His father taught him to play the piano at a young age, and he showed a natural talent for music. Igelhoff began composing his own music as a teenager and went on to study music at the Berlin Conservatory. In the 1920s, Igelhoff began performing as a pianist and singer in Berlin's cabarets and nightclubs. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented performer and composer, and his music became popular throughout Germany. In 1933, Igelhoff's career was interrupted by the rise of the Nazi party in Germany. He was forced to flee the country and eventually settled in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, Igelhoff continued to compose and perform music. He became a popular figure in the Dutch music scene and wrote many songs in Dutch. Some of his most famous Dutch songs include "De Oude Piano" and "Ik Hou Van Holland." Igelhoff also composed music for films and television shows, including the Dutch television series "De Fabeltjeskrant." Despite his success in the Netherlands, Igelhoff never forgot his German roots. He continued to write music in German and often performed in Germany after the end of World War II. Some of his most famous German songs include "Das Fräulein Gerda" and "Ich Hab' Noch Einen Koffer in Berlin." Throughout his career, Igelhoff was known for his catchy melodies and witty lyrics. His music was often humorous and lighthearted, but he also wrote more serious pieces. One of his most famous serious works is the song "Das Lied Vom Leben Des Schrenk," which tells the story of a man who struggles to find meaning in his life. Igelhoff's music was popular not only in Germany and the Netherlands but also in other parts of Europe and the United States. His songs were often covered by other artists, and his music was used in films and television shows. Some of his most famous covers include Louis Armstrong's version of "Ich Hab' Noch Einen Koffer in Berlin" and Marlene Dietrich's version of "Das Fräulein Gerda." Despite his success, Igelhoff remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to compose and perform music until his death on April 8, 1978, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Today, he is remembered as one of the most talented and influential composers of his time, and his music continues to be enjoyed by people all over the world.
