Le Cameriste is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1996 in Montreal, Canada. The group is known for its unique blend of classical and contemporary music, and its ability to captivate audiences with its dynamic performances. The ensemble was founded by flutist Marie-Andrée Benny and harpist Caroline Lizotte, who were both students at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal at the time. They were joined by cellist Stéphane Tétreault, who was just 13 years old at the time, and pianist Jean-François Latour. The group's name, Le Cameriste, is derived from the Italian word "cameristi," which means chamber musicians. Over the years, Le Cameriste has had several members come and go, but the core group has remained the same. In addition to Benny, Lizotte, Tétreault, and Latour, the ensemble also includes violinist Antoine Bareil and violist Frédéric Lambert. One of the highlights of Le Cameriste's career was its performance at the 2006 Montreal International Musical Competition. The group was invited to perform as part of the competition's chamber music series, and its performance was met with critical acclaim. The ensemble was praised for its technical skill, musicality, and ability to connect with the audience. In addition to its performance at the Montreal International Musical Competition, Le Cameriste has also performed at several other prestigious venues and events. The group has performed at the Montreal Symphony Orchestra's "Virée Classique" festival, the Ottawa Chamberfest, and the Festival de Lanaudière, among others. Le Cameriste has also been recognized for its contributions to the world of classical music. In 2009, the ensemble was awarded the Opus Prize for "Concert of the Year - Classical, Romantic, Post-Romantic Music" for its performance of works by Brahms and Schumann. The Opus Prize is awarded annually by the Conseil québécois de la musique to recognize excellence in the Quebec music industry. In addition to its live performances, Le Cameriste has also released several recordings. The group's first album, "Le Cameriste," was released in 2000 and featured works by Mozart, Debussy, and Ravel. The ensemble's most recent album, "Le Cameriste jouent Piazzolla," was released in 2018 and features works by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla. Le Cameriste's unique blend of classical and contemporary music has made it a favorite among audiences and critics alike. The group's ability to connect with its audience and bring new life to classical music has earned it a reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative ensembles in the world of classical music.
