He continued his music education at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where he studied composition under the renowned composer, Tan Dun. During his time at the conservatory, Tian Ge was exposed to a wide range of musical styles and traditions, including Western classical music, Chinese traditional music, and contemporary music. He was particularly interested in the fusion of these different styles and began experimenting with incorporating Chinese instruments and melodies into his compositions. After graduating from the conservatory, Tian Ge began working as a composer and music producer for film and television. He quickly gained a reputation for his innovative approach to music and his ability to seamlessly blend different musical styles and traditions. One of Tian Ge's most notable works is his opera, "The Peony Pavilion," which he composed in 2001. The opera is based on a classic Chinese play of the same name and tells the story of a young woman who falls in love with a man she sees in a dream. The opera features a blend of Western and Chinese musical styles and incorporates traditional Chinese instruments such as the erhu and pipa. Another notable work by Tian Ge is his "Concerto for Erhu and Orchestra," which he composed in 2005. The concerto features the erhu, a traditional Chinese instrument, and showcases Tian Ge's ability to blend traditional Chinese melodies with Western classical music. In addition to his work as a composer, Tian Ge was also a respected music educator.
