Nicholas Barasch is a classical music artist who has made a name for himself in the world of opera and musical theater. Born on December 21, 1993, in New York City, Barasch grew up in a family of musicians. His father, David Barasch, is a composer and conductor, while his mother, Karen Barasch, is a pianist and music educator. From a young age, Barasch was exposed to classical music and began studying piano and voice. Barasch attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where he honed his skills as a singer and actor. He went on to study at the Juilliard School, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. During his time at Juilliard, Barasch performed in numerous productions, including Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" and Britten's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." After graduating from Juilliard, Barasch began his professional career in opera. He made his debut with the Metropolitan Opera in 2016, playing the role of the Shepherd in Richard Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde." He has since performed with the Metropolitan Opera in several productions, including "La Bohème," "The Magic Flute," and "The Merry Widow." In addition to his work in opera, Barasch has also made a name for himself in musical theater. He made his Broadway debut in 2017, playing the role of Arpad Laszlo in the revival of "She Loves Me." He received critical acclaim for his performance, with The New York Times calling him "a standout" and "a comic delight." Barasch went on to play the role of Mendel in the Broadway production of "Falsettos" in 2019. Barasch has also performed in numerous concerts and recitals. In 2018, he performed in a concert version of Leonard Bernstein's "Candide" at Carnegie Hall, alongside Kristin Chenoweth and Patti LuPone. He has also performed in recitals at the Ravinia Festival and the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts. Throughout his career, Barasch has received numerous awards and accolades. In 2016, he was a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, one of the most prestigious competitions for young opera singers. He was also a recipient of the Richard Tucker Career Grant in 2018, which recognizes young singers with promising careers in opera. Barasch is known for his powerful voice and his ability to bring depth and emotion to his performances. He has been praised for his versatility as a performer, seamlessly transitioning between opera and musical theater.
