Bradyworks is a Canadian classical music ensemble that was founded in 1991 by composer and saxophonist Tim Brady. The ensemble is known for its innovative and experimental approach to classical music, incorporating elements of rock, jazz, and electronic music into their performances. Tim Brady, who serves as the artistic director and guitarist for Bradyworks, founded the ensemble with the goal of creating a platform for contemporary classical music that was accessible and engaging for audiences. The ensemble's name is a nod to the Brady Bunch, a popular television show from the 1970s, and reflects the group's playful and irreverent approach to music-making. Over the years, Bradyworks has featured a rotating cast of musicians, including some of Canada's most talented classical performers. Some of the ensemble's main members have included pianist and composer Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa, percussionist Shawn Mativetsky, and saxophonist Jean Derome. One of the highlights of Bradyworks' career was their performance at the 1996 Montreal Jazz Festival, where they shared the stage with jazz legends like Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. The ensemble's unique blend of classical and jazz influences was a hit with audiences, and they received critical acclaim for their performance. Bradyworks has also been recognized for their innovative approach to music-making, receiving numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2006, the ensemble won the Prix Opus for Best New Music Ensemble, and in 2011, they were awarded the Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award by the Canada Council for the Arts. One of the hallmarks of Bradyworks' performances is their use of multimedia elements, including video projections and electronic soundscapes. The ensemble has collaborated with a number of visual artists and filmmakers over the years, creating immersive and multi-sensory performances that push the boundaries of classical music. In addition to their live performances, Bradyworks has also released several albums over the years, including their critically acclaimed 2014 release, 24 Frames - Trance. The album features 24 pieces of music, each inspired by a different frame from a film by Canadian filmmaker Arthur Lipsett. Overall, Bradyworks has established itself as one of Canada's most innovative and exciting classical music ensembles. With their unique blend of classical, jazz, and electronic influences, and their commitment to pushing the boundaries of music-making, the ensemble has earned a dedicated following and critical acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
