Role:EnsembleSotto Voce Quartet is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique sound and style since their founding in 2006. The quartet is made up of four talented musicians who have dedicated their lives to the art of classical music: Erin Hannigan (oboe), Nathan Williams (clarinet), Kevin Dvorak (bassoon), and Drew Lang (horn). The idea for Sotto Voce Quartet was born when Erin Hannigan, who was then the principal oboist for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, approached Nathan Williams, the principal clarinetist for the same orchestra, about forming a chamber music group. The two musicians had worked together in the past and knew that they shared a passion for chamber music. They soon recruited Kevin Dvorak, the principal bassoonist for the Kansas City Symphony, and Drew Lang, the principal hornist for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, to complete the quartet. Sotto Voce Quartet quickly gained a reputation for their innovative programming and their ability to connect with audiences. They have performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the United States, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Ravinia Festival. They have also been featured on numerous radio programs, including NPR's Performance Today. One of the highlights of Sotto Voce Quartet's career was their performance at the 2012 International Double Reed Society Conference in Oxford, England. The conference is one of the most important events in the world of double reed instruments, and Sotto Voce Quartet was honored to be invited to perform. Their performance was met with critical acclaim, and they were praised for their technical skill and musicality. Sotto Voce Quartet has also been recognized for their recordings. Their debut album, "Sotto Voce," was released in 2010 and received rave reviews. The album features works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms, as well as contemporary composers such as Jennifer Higdon and John Mackey. Their second album, "Inner Voices," was released in 2014 and features works by Schumann, Poulenc, and Barber, among others. In addition to their performances and recordings, Sotto Voce Quartet is committed to education and outreach. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops at universities and music schools across the United States, and they have worked with young musicians through programs such as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra's Young Strings program. Sotto Voce Quartet has received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 2008, they were named the Grand Prize Winner of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, one of the most prestigious chamber music competitions in the world. They have also been awarded grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Texas Commission on the Arts. Despite their success, Sotto Voce Quartet remains committed to their mission of bringing classical music to a wider audience. They continue to push the boundaries of traditional chamber music and to explore new ways of connecting with audiences. With their unique sound and their passion for music, Sotto Voce Quartet is sure to continue captivating audiences for years to come.More....
