Carlo Savina & His Orchestra was a classical music ensemble that was founded in the mid-20th century. The ensemble was led by Carlo Savina, an Italian composer, conductor, and arranger who was known for his work in film and television. Carlo Savina was born in Turin, Italy in 1919. He began his musical career as a violinist, studying at the Turin Conservatory. In the 1940s, he began working as a composer and arranger for Italian radio and television. He also worked as a conductor for various orchestras, including the RAI Symphony Orchestra in Turin. In the 1950s, Savina began working in the film industry, composing and conducting music for Italian films. He worked with many of the top Italian directors of the time, including Federico Fellini, Vittorio De Sica, and Luchino Visconti. He also worked on international productions, including the French film "Les Amants de Montparnasse" and the American film "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad." In addition to his work in film, Savina also recorded and performed with his own orchestra. The ensemble was made up of some of the top musicians in Italy, including members of the RAI Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra's repertoire included classical music, as well as popular songs and film music. One of the highlights of Carlo Savina & His Orchestra's career was their performance at the 1958 World's Fair in Brussels, Belgium. The ensemble performed a program of Italian music, including works by Verdi, Rossini, and Puccini. The performance was well-received and helped to raise the profile of the ensemble. Carlo Savina & His Orchestra also recorded many albums throughout their career. Their recordings included classical works, as well as arrangements of popular songs and film music. Some of their most popular albums included "The Best of Italian Music," "The Magic of Italy," and "The Sound of Music." In addition to their recordings and performances, Carlo Savina & His Orchestra also received several awards and honors throughout their career. In 1960, they won the Nastro d'Argento (Silver Ribbon) award for Best Score for their work on the film "Il Bell'Antonio." They also received several awards from Italian music industry organizations, including the Premio della Critica Discografica and the Premio della Critica Musicale. Carlo Savina continued to work in the film industry and with his orchestra throughout the 1960s and 1970s. He composed and conducted music for many Italian and international films, including "The Bible: In the Beginning," "The Battle of Algiers," and "The Godfather Part II." He also continued to record and perform with his orchestra, releasing albums such as "The Best of Carlo Savina" and "The Best of Film Music." Carlo Savina passed away in 2002 at the age of 83. His legacy as a composer, conductor, and arranger continues to be celebrated by music lovers around the world.
