Her father, William Wright, was a violinist, and her mother, Mary Wright, was a pianist. Jessie grew up in a musical environment and started playing the piano at a young age. In 1950, Jessie married the composer and conductor, Frank Martin. The couple moved to Switzerland, where Frank was a professor at the Geneva Conservatory of Music. Jessie continued to perform and teach, and she became a respected figure in the Swiss music scene. In 1960, Jessie was awarded the Prix de Lausanne, a prestigious award for young musicians. The award recognized her outstanding talent and contribution to the world of music. Jessie continued to perform and teach, and she became a mentor to many young musicians. In 1983, Jessie was awarded the Swiss Music Prize, the highest honor for musicians in Switzerland. The award recognized her lifetime achievement and contribution to the Swiss music scene.
