Role:ComposerPeriod:ClassicalNorbert Hauner was a German composer and pianist who was born on August 22, 1930, in Munich, Germany. He was the youngest of three children and grew up in a musical family. His father was a violinist and his mother was a pianist, and they both encouraged their children to pursue music. Hauner began playing the piano at a young age and showed great talent. He studied at the Munich Conservatory and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. He also studied composition with the renowned composer Carl Orff. Hauner's early works were influenced by the music of Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. He was particularly interested in the structure and form of their compositions and sought to incorporate these elements into his own music. His early works include piano sonatas, string quartets, and symphonies. In the 1950s, Hauner began to experiment with serialism, a compositional technique that uses a series of musical pitches to create a piece of music. He was particularly interested in the work of Arnold Schoenberg and Anton Webern, two composers who were known for their use of serialism. Hauner's serialist works include his String Quartet No. 1 and his Piano Sonata No. 2. Hauner's music was well-received by critics and audiences alike. He won several awards for his compositions, including the Bavarian State Prize for Music in 1962 and the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize in 1985. He was also a respected pianist and performed his own works as well as the works of other composers. Hauner's later works were more experimental and incorporated elements of electronic music. He was particularly interested in the use of computers to create music and began to experiment with computer-generated sounds in the 1970s. His electronic works include his Electronic Symphony No. 1 and his Computer Music No. 1. Hauner continued to compose and perform music throughout his life. He died on December 28, 2004, in Munich, Germany, at the age of 74. His legacy as a composer and pianist continues to be celebrated today, and his music remains an important part of the classical music canon.More....
