Double Entendre Music Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in New York City and has gained a reputation for its innovative and dynamic performances. The founding members of Double Entendre Music Ensemble were violinist Sarah Whitney, violist Emily Deans, cellist Sæunn Thorsteinsdóttir, and pianist Adam Marks. All four musicians had extensive experience performing in various orchestras and chamber groups, and they were eager to explore the possibilities of playing together as a quartet. From the beginning, Double Entendre Music Ensemble set out to challenge the traditional boundaries of classical music. The ensemble's name, which means "double meaning" in French, reflects its commitment to exploring the multiple layers of meaning and emotion that can be found in classical music. Over the years, Double Entendre Music Ensemble has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the United States and abroad. The ensemble has been featured at the Lincoln Center Festival, the Kennedy Center, the Ravinia Festival, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, among others.
