Argot Trio is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015. The trio consists of three members: clarinetist Clara Gerdes, cellist Joanne Yesol Choi, and pianist Kevin Loucks. The ensemble is based in New York City and has gained recognition for their unique sound and innovative programming. Clara Gerdes, the clarinetist of the ensemble, is a graduate of the Juilliard School and has performed with various orchestras and ensembles throughout the United States. Joanne Yesol Choi, the cellist, is also a graduate of the Juilliard School and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in numerous venues around the world. Kevin Loucks, the pianist, is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in various festivals and concert series throughout the United States and Europe. The ensemble's name, Argot, is derived from the French word for "slang" or "jargon." The trio chose this name to reflect their desire to explore and experiment with different musical styles and genres. Their repertoire includes works from the classical canon as well as contemporary pieces and arrangements of popular music. Argot Trio has performed in various venues throughout the United States, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. They have also performed internationally in countries such as South Korea and Italy. The ensemble has collaborated with various artists and ensembles, including the New York Philharmonic and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. One of the highlights of Argot Trio's career was their performance at the 2018 Chamber Music America Conference in New York City. The ensemble was selected to perform as part of the conference's showcase concert, which featured some of the most promising young chamber music ensembles in the country. The trio's performance was well-received by the audience and critics alike, with The New York Times praising their "impressive technical skill and musical sensitivity." In addition to their performances, Argot Trio has also received numerous awards and accolades. The ensemble was a finalist in the 2017 Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition and was awarded the Silver Medal in the 2018 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. They were also selected as the 2018-2019 Ensemble-in-Residence at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's Chamber Music Encounters program.
