Born on December 12, 1981, in Tokyo, Japan, Sawada showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue music as a career. Sawada's early years were spent studying music at the Yamaha Music School in Tokyo. She quickly progressed through the program and began performing in public at the age of six. Her talent was evident, and she was soon invited to perform at various concerts and events in Japan. In 1993, Sawada won first prize in the Yamaha Music Foundation Piano Competition, which was a significant achievement for her at the time. This win gave her the confidence to pursue a career in music and inspired her to continue her studies. Sawada went on to study at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, where she received a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. Sawada's talent and hard work paid off when she won several prestigious awards and competitions during her time at Juilliard. In 2004, she won first prize in the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, which is one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world. This win brought Sawada international recognition and opened up many doors for her in the music industry. After graduating from Juilliard, Sawada began performing extensively throughout the United States and Japan. She has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall.
