MexicoBirth:January 28, 1875 in Ahualuco, MexicoDeath:September 9, 1965 in Mexico City, MexicoJulian Carrillo was a Mexican composer and violinist who was born on January 28, 1875, in Ahualulco, San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He was the son of a musician and grew up in a musical family. Carrillo began playing the violin at a young age and showed great talent. He studied music at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City and later in Europe. Carrillo was interested in exploring new sounds and techniques in music. He developed a system of microtonal music, which he called "The Thirteenth Sound." This system allowed for the use of intervals smaller than the traditional half-step used in Western music. Carrillo believed that this system would allow for a greater range of expression in music. Carrillo's most famous work is his Symphony No. 5 "The Thirteenth." This symphony was composed using his microtonal system and premiered in 1926. The work was well-received and helped to establish Carrillo as a leading composer in Mexico. In addition to his work as a composer, Carrillo was also a respected violinist. He performed with many orchestras throughout his career and was known for his virtuosic playing. Carrillo also taught music and was a mentor to many young musicians. Carrillo's music was influenced by Mexican folk music and the music of other cultures. He believed that music should be a universal language that could bring people together. Carrillo's work was ahead of its time and has influenced many composers since his death in 1965. Overall, Julian Carrillo was a pioneering composer and musician who pushed the boundaries of traditional Western music. His microtonal system and his belief in the power of music to unite people continue to inspire musicians today.More....
