Hot Swing is a classical music ensemble that specializes in the performance of swing music. The ensemble was founded in 1999 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for the music of the swing era. The founding members of the ensemble were violinist Evan Price, guitarist Paul Mehling, bassist Clint Baker, and clarinetist Dave Ricketts. The ensemble's music is heavily influenced by the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, two of the most prominent musicians of the swing era. The ensemble's repertoire includes both original compositions and arrangements of classic swing tunes. Hot Swing has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Hollywood Bowl. The ensemble has also performed at numerous jazz festivals, including the Monterey Jazz Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival. One of the highlights of Hot Swing's career was their performance at the 2002 Grammy Awards. The ensemble was nominated for Best Jazz Instrumental Album for their album "Swingin' with the Hot Club of San Francisco." Although they did not win the award, their performance at the ceremony was widely praised. Hot Swing has also received numerous other awards and accolades throughout their career. In 2001, the ensemble won the Best Jazz Album award at the California Music Awards for their album "Yerba Buena Bounce." The ensemble has also been nominated for several other awards, including the International Bluegrass Music Association's Instrumental Group of the Year award. The ensemble's main members have remained largely consistent throughout their career. Evan Price, the ensemble's founder and lead violinist, has been with the ensemble since its inception. Paul Mehling, the ensemble's lead guitarist, has also been with the ensemble since its founding. Clint Baker, the ensemble's bassist, joined the ensemble shortly after its founding. Dave Ricketts, the ensemble's clarinetist, left the ensemble in 2003 and was replaced by Jeff Magidson. Hot Swing's music has been praised for its virtuosity and its ability to capture the spirit of the swing era. The ensemble's performances are characterized by their tight arrangements and their energetic improvisations. The ensemble's music is also notable for its use of acoustic instruments, which gives their music a warm and organic sound. In addition to their performances, Hot Swing has also released several albums throughout their career. Their debut album, "Hot Club of San Francisco," was released in 1999. The album was well-received and helped to establish the ensemble's reputation as one of the premier swing ensembles in the world. Since then, the ensemble has released several other albums, including "Swingin' with the Hot Club of San Francisco" and "Yerba Buena Bounce." Hot Swing's music has been praised for its ability to appeal to both jazz aficionados and casual listeners. The ensemble's music is characterized by its infectious energy and its ability to transport listeners back to the swing era. Hot Swing's music is a testament to the enduring appeal of swing music and the talent of the musicians who perform it.
