Rayuela
Artist Info
Role:EnsembleRayuela is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble takes its name from the Spanish word for hopscotch, which reflects the group's playful and adventurous approach to music-making. The founding members of Rayuela were violinist Francisco Fullana, cellist Tomás Tomsic, and pianist David Fung. All three musicians had already established themselves as soloists and chamber musicians, but they were drawn together by a desire to explore the rich repertoire of chamber music and to collaborate with other like-minded musicians. Over the years, Rayuela has expanded and evolved, with new members joining and departing as the ensemble's musical vision has developed. However, the core values of the group have remained constant: a commitment to excellence in performance, a passion for exploring the full range of chamber music repertoire, and a dedication to engaging with audiences in innovative and meaningful ways. One of the highlights of Rayuela's early years was their performance at the 2013 Chamber Music America Conference in New York City. This prestigious event brings together some of the most talented and innovative chamber music ensembles from around the world, and Rayuela's performance was widely praised for its energy, precision, and musicality. Since then, Rayuela has gone on to perform at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals in the United States and Europe. They have been featured at the Ravinia Festival, the Mostly Mozart Festival, the Caramoor Festival, and the La Jolla Music Society SummerFest, among others. One of the hallmarks of Rayuela's performances is their ability to bring fresh and exciting interpretations to even the most well-known works in the chamber music repertoire. For example, their performance of Beethoven's "Archduke" Trio at the 2015 Caramoor Festival was praised for its "sparkling energy and impeccable ensemble playing," and their rendition of Schubert's "Trout" Quintet at the 2016 Mostly Mozart Festival was described as "a revelation, full of unexpected twists and turns." In addition to their performances, Rayuela has also been recognized for their recordings. Their debut album, "Hopscotch," was released in 2015 to critical acclaim, with Gramophone magazine praising the ensemble's "impeccable technique and musicality." The album features works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Dvořák, as well as a new commission by the American composer Michael Ippolito. Rayuela has also been committed to engaging with audiences in innovative and meaningful ways. They have collaborated with visual artists, dancers, and actors to create multimedia performances that explore the connections between music and other art forms. For example, their collaboration with the choreographer Jessica Lang, "The Wanderer," was praised for its "seamless integration of music and dance." In addition to their performances and recordings, Rayuela has also been recognized for their educational and outreach work. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and have worked with community organizations to bring classical music to underserved audiences. Overall, Rayuela is a dynamic and innovative ensemble that is dedicated to exploring the full range of chamber music repertoire and engaging with audiences in new and exciting ways.More....
