Agathe Backer-Grøndahl was a Norwegian pianist and composer who lived from 1847 to 1907. She was born in Holmestrand, Norway, to a family of musicians. Her father, a church organist, recognized her musical talent at a young age and began teaching her piano. She later studied with several prominent musicians, including Theodor Kullak in Berlin and Franz Liszt in Weimar. Backer-Grøndahl's early compositions were influenced by the Romantic style of her time, but she later developed her own unique voice. She was known for her lyrical melodies and harmonies, as well as her technical skill as a pianist. Her works include solo piano pieces, songs, chamber music, and orchestral works.
