Naum Grubert is a renowned classical pianist who has captivated audiences around the world with his virtuosic performances and deep musicality. Born in Riga, Latvia in 1945, Grubert showed an early aptitude for music and began studying piano at the age of six. He quickly demonstrated a prodigious talent, winning his first competition at the age of nine and going on to study at the Moscow Conservatory under the tutelage of legendary pianist and teacher Heinrich Neuhaus. Grubert's early career was marked by a series of impressive accomplishments, including winning the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels in 1964. This victory launched him onto the international stage, and he soon began performing with some of the world's leading orchestras and conductors. He made his debut with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1966, and went on to perform with the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, among others. Throughout his career, Grubert has been praised for his technical mastery and his ability to bring out the emotional depth and complexity of the music he plays. He has a particular affinity for the works of Beethoven, and has recorded the complete cycle of Beethoven's piano sonatas to critical acclaim. He has also recorded works by Chopin, Schumann, Brahms, and other composers, and has collaborated with a number of other musicians, including violinist Gidon Kremer and cellist Mischa Maisky. In addition to his performing career, Grubert has also been active as a teacher and mentor. He has taught at the Amsterdam Conservatory and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, and has given masterclasses around the world. He has also served as a jury member for a number of international competitions, including the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the Van Cliburn Competition in Fort Worth, Texas. Grubert's many accomplishments have been recognized with a number of awards and honors. In 1996, he was awarded the Order of the Three Stars by the President of Latvia, and in 2005 he was made an Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau by the Dutch government. He has also been awarded the Grand Prix du Disque and the Edison Award for his recordings, and in 2015 he was awarded the Golden Medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society in London. Despite his many achievements, Grubert remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest pianists of his generation.
