Founded in 1952, the chorus has become known for its exceptional performances and has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. The ensemble was established by the Italian record label RCA Italiana, which was looking to create a chorus that could perform on its recordings of operas. The chorus was initially made up of 60 singers, all of whom were selected for their exceptional vocal abilities. One of the highlights of the RCA Italiana Opera Chorus's career was its performance in the 1958 recording of Giuseppe Verdi's Aida, which featured Tebaldi and Gobbi in the lead roles. The recording was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish the chorus as a force to be reckoned with in the world of opera. In addition to its recordings, the RCA Italiana Opera Chorus has also performed live on numerous occasions. One of its most notable performances was at the 1960 Salzburg Festival, where it performed in a production of Verdi's Don Carlo. The performance was a huge success, and it helped to cement the chorus's reputation as one of the best in the world. Over the years, the RCA Italiana Opera Chorus has been recognized with many awards and accolades. In 1961, it was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for its recording of Verdi's Requiem, and in 1963, it was awarded the Edison Award for its recording of Puccini's La Bohème.
