Marco De Biasi was born on May 12, 1975, in Venice, Italy. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a pianist and his mother a singer. From a young age, De Biasi showed a natural talent for music and began studying piano and composition at the age of six. De Biasi's early musical education was heavily influenced by the classical music tradition of his hometown, Venice. He studied under some of the city's most renowned musicians, including the composer and conductor Gianfranco Masini. Under Masini's guidance, De Biasi developed a deep appreciation for the works of the great composers of the past, such as Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. As a teenager, De Biasi began to explore other musical genres, including jazz and rock. He played in several bands and experimented with different styles of composition. However, he never lost his love for classical music and continued to study and compose in that tradition. In 1994, De Biasi enrolled at the Conservatory of Music in Venice, where he studied composition with the renowned composer and conductor Claudio Scimone. Scimone was a major influence on De Biasi's development as a composer, teaching him the importance of structure, form, and harmony in classical music. After graduating from the conservatory, De Biasi began to establish himself as a composer. His early works were heavily influenced by the classical tradition, but he also incorporated elements of jazz and rock into his compositions. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented and innovative composer, and his works were performed by some of Italy's leading orchestras and ensembles. One of De Biasi's early successes was his composition "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra," which was premiered by the Venice Symphony Orchestra in 2001. The piece was praised for its virtuosic piano writing and its innovative use of orchestration. It quickly became one of De Biasi's most popular works and has been performed by orchestras around the world. In 2003, De Biasi was commissioned to write a piece for the Venice Biennale, one of the world's most prestigious arts festivals. The resulting work, "Symphony No. 1," was a major success, receiving critical acclaim and establishing De Biasi as one of Italy's leading composers. Over the next few years, De Biasi continued to compose prolifically, producing works in a variety of genres and styles. He wrote several operas, including "The Merchant of Venice," which was premiered at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice in 2007. He also wrote several chamber works, including "String Quartet No. 1," which was premiered by the Arditti Quartet in 2008. In 2010, De Biasi was commissioned to write a piece for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. The resulting work, "Olympic Fanfare," was a rousing and celebratory piece that captured the spirit of the games. It was performed by a massed choir and orchestra and was broadcast to millions of viewers around the world. In recent years, De Biasi has continued to compose and has expanded his musical horizons even further. He has written several film scores, including the music for the critically acclaimed Italian film "The Great Beauty" in 2013. He has also collaborated with musicians from other genres, including the jazz pianist Stefano Bollani and the rock band Radiohead. Throughout his career, De Biasi has remained committed to the classical music tradition while also pushing the boundaries of the genre.
