Jean-Francois Duquesnoy was born on May 12, 1985, in Paris, France. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Duquesnoy showed a natural talent for music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Duquesnoy began his musical education at the age of five, studying piano with his father. He quickly progressed and started performing in public at the age of eight. At the age of ten, he started studying the violin with his mother, and by the age of twelve, he had already won several local competitions. In 1998, Duquesnoy was accepted into the prestigious Conservatoire de Paris, where he studied under the guidance of renowned violinist Jean-Jacques Kantorow. During his time at the conservatory, Duquesnoy won several awards and competitions, including the first prize at the Concours National des Jeunes Violonistes in 2001. After graduating from the conservatory in 2003, Duquesnoy began his professional career as a soloist and chamber musician. He quickly gained recognition for his virtuosity and musicality, and he was invited to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. One of Duquesnoy's most memorable performances was his debut with the Vienna Philharmonic in 2007. He performed Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major, and his performance was met with critical acclaim. The Vienna Times praised his "exquisite tone and impeccable technique," and the audience gave him a standing ovation. In addition to his solo career, Duquesnoy is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has performed with some of the world's leading ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet, the Guarneri Quartet, and the Tokyo String Quartet. He is also a founding member of the Duquesnoy Trio, which has performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States. Duquesnoy's recordings have also received critical acclaim. His recording of Beethoven's Violin Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra was named "Recording of the Year" by Gramophone magazine in 2010. His recording of Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin was also highly praised, with The Strad magazine calling it "a benchmark recording." In addition to his performing career, Duquesnoy is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught masterclasses at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Royal Academy of Music in London, and the Conservatoire de Paris. He is also a faculty member at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany. Duquesnoy has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 2012, he was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in recognition of his contributions to the arts. He has also been awarded the Prix de la Fondation de France and the Prix de la Fondation Cziffra. Despite his success, Duquesnoy remains humble and dedicated to his craft.
