Ferrante began playing the piano at the age of three, while Teicher started playing at the age of six. They both attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where they met and formed their partnership. Ferrante & Teicher began their career in the 1940s, playing in nightclubs and hotels in New York City. They gained popularity in the 1950s with their unique style of playing classical music on two pianos. They became known for their fast-paced, energetic performances, which often included popular songs and movie themes. In 1953, Ferrante & Teicher signed a recording contract with United Artists Records. Their first album, "Soundproof," was released in 1954. They went on to release over 150 albums throughout their career, including several gold and platinum records. One of Ferrante & Teicher's most famous performances was their rendition of the theme from the movie "Exodus." The song became a hit in 1960 and won the duo a Grammy Award for Best Performance by an Orchestra or Chorus. They also received a Grammy nomination for their album "Pianos in Paradise" in 1962. Ferrante & Teicher performed for several U.S. presidents, including Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, and Richard Nixon. They also performed at the White House for Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to the United States in 1957. In addition to their music career, Ferrante & Teicher also appeared in several movies and television shows. They made their film debut in the 1954 movie "Deep in My Heart," and went on to appear in several other films, including "The Big Cube" and "The Carpetbaggers." They also made guest appearances on several television shows, including "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson." Ferrante & Teicher continued to perform together until Teicher's retirement in 1989. Ferrante continued to perform solo until his death in 2009 at the age of 88.
