Richard Cookson was born on May 12, 1985, in London, England. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Cookson showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Cookson's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly developed his skills. By the age of ten, Cookson had already won several local piano competitions and was invited to perform at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall. In 1997, Cookson was accepted into the prestigious Purcell School of Music, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Ronan O'Hora. During his time at the Purcell School, Cookson continued to excel, winning numerous awards and competitions, including the BBC Young Musician of the Year Award in 2001. After graduating from the Purcell School, Cookson went on to study at the Royal College of Music in London, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree with first-class honors. He then continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York, where he earned a Master of Music degree. Throughout his career, Cookson has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Cookson's repertoire is vast and includes works by some of the greatest composers in history, including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Mozart. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Rachmaninoff, and his performances of the composer's Piano Concerto No. 2 have been hailed as some of the best in recent years. In addition to his performances, Cookson is also a dedicated teacher and has taught at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School and the Royal College of Music. He is known for his patient and nurturing approach to teaching, and many of his students have gone on to have successful careers in music. Throughout his career, Cookson has received numerous awards and accolades for his performances and recordings.
