He began his formal music education at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist Carlo Zecchi. In 1947, Curzi won the prestigious Busoni International Piano Competition, which was held in Bolzano, Italy. This was a major turning point in his career, as it brought him international recognition and opened up new opportunities for him. Following his victory at the Busoni Competition, Curzi began performing extensively throughout Europe and the United States. Throughout his career, Curzi was known for his technical mastery and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Schumann, and his performances of these composers' works were considered some of the best in the world. One of the highlights of Curzi's career was his performance at the Salzburg Festival in 1953. He was invited to perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler. The performance was a huge success, and Curzi received a standing ovation from the audience. Curzi continued to perform and record throughout the 1950s and 1960s, and his reputation as one of the world's greatest pianists continued to grow. In 1965, he was awarded the prestigious Grand Prix du Disque for his recording of Chopin's Nocturnes. In addition to his career as a performer, Curzi was also a respected music educator. He taught at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome for many years, and his students included some of the most talented young pianists in Italy.
