Filharmonie Hradec Králové is a classical music ensemble based in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic. The orchestra was founded in 1959 as the Hradec Králové Symphony Orchestra, and it has since become one of the most prominent orchestras in the country. The ensemble's main members include its conductor, Steven Sloane, and its principal guest conductor, Jakub Hrůša. Sloane has been the orchestra's music director since 2008, and he has led the ensemble in numerous performances and recordings. Hrůša, who is also the chief conductor of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, has worked with Filharmonie Hradec Králové on several occasions, including a performance of Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 in 2016. Over the years, Filharmonie Hradec Králové has performed a wide range of classical music repertoire, including works by Czech composers such as Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana, and Leoš Janáček, as well as works by international composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky. The ensemble has also collaborated with many renowned soloists, including pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, violinist Vadim Gluzman, and cellist Alisa Weilerstein. One of the highlights of Filharmonie Hradec Králové's history was its performance at the 2008 Prague Spring International Music Festival. The ensemble performed Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, "From the New World," under the baton of Steven Sloane, and the performance was met with critical acclaim. The orchestra has also performed at other major music festivals, including the BBC Proms in London and the Salzburg Festival in Austria. In addition to its performances, Filharmonie Hradec Králové has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2010, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Czech Music Council Award for its contribution to Czech music culture. The orchestra has also been recognized for its recordings, including a 2015 recording of Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 that was nominated for a Grammy Award. Today, Filharmonie Hradec Králové continues to be a leading classical music ensemble in the Czech Republic and beyond.
