Marcelo Zarvos is a Brazilian-American composer known for his work in film, television, and classical music. He was born on July 27, 1969, in São Paulo, Brazil, to a family of musicians. His father was a classical pianist, and his mother was a singer. Zarvos grew up surrounded by music and began playing the piano at a young age. Zarvos moved to the United States in 1982 and attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied jazz and classical music. After graduating, he moved to New York City and began working as a composer and pianist. He quickly gained recognition for his work in the downtown music scene, collaborating with artists such as Philip Glass and Steve Reich. In the late 1990s, Zarvos began composing music for film and television. His first major film score was for the 2000 independent film "Kissing Jessica Stein." He went on to compose music for a number of other films, including "The Door in the Floor," "The Good Shepherd," and "Brooklyn's Finest." Zarvos has also composed music for television shows, including "The Affair," "Ray Donovan," and "The Romanoffs." His work on "The Affair" earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series in 2016.
