John W. Bratton was an American composer and songwriter who was born on May 21, 1867, in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Bratton began playing the piano at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. He later studied music at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. After completing his studies, Bratton began his career as a composer and songwriter. He wrote many popular songs and instrumental pieces, including "Teddy Bears' Picnic," "The Liberty Bell," and "The Whistler and His Dog." His music was often featured in vaudeville shows and was popular with audiences across the United States. One of Bratton's most famous compositions is "Teddy Bears' Picnic," which he wrote in 1907. The song was originally written as an instrumental piece, but later lyrics were added by Jimmy Kennedy. The song became a hit and has since become a classic children's song. It has been recorded by many artists over the years, including Bing Crosby, Jerry Garcia, and Anne Murray. Another popular piece by Bratton is "The Liberty Bell," which he wrote in 1893. The piece was originally written as a march and was later used as the theme song for the television show "Monty Python's Flying Circus." The piece has become a symbol of American patriotism and is often played at Fourth of July celebrations. Bratton also wrote many other instrumental pieces, including "The Whistler and His Dog," which he wrote in 1905. The piece was inspired by Bratton's own dog, who would often whistle along with him as he played the piano. The piece became a hit and has since become a classic of the ragtime era. In addition to his instrumental pieces, Bratton also wrote many popular songs. One of his most famous songs is "Down in Jungle Town," which he wrote in 1891. The song was inspired by the popular book "The Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling and became a hit with audiences across the United States. Bratton continued to compose music throughout his life and was a prolific songwriter. He died on February 7, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the age of 79. His music continues to be popular with audiences today and has become a part of American musical history.
