Stepan Koutnik was born on May 12, 1985, in Prague, Czech Republic. He was born into a family of musicians, and his parents were both professional classical musicians. His father was a cellist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Koutnik was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Koutnik's parents recognized his talent and enrolled him in the Prague Conservatory at the age of eight. He studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Jiri Hlinka. Koutnik's talent was evident from the start, and he quickly became one of Hlinka's most promising students. At the age of 14, Koutnik won first prize in the Prague Conservatory's annual piano competition. This was a significant achievement for Koutnik, and it marked the beginning of his career as a professional classical pianist. After completing his studies at the Prague Conservatory, Koutnik went on to study at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. He continued to excel in his studies and was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Koutnik's career as a professional pianist began to take off in his early twenties. He won several international piano competitions, including the International Piano Competition in Santander, Spain, and the International Piano Competition in Leeds, England. In 2008, Koutnik made his debut at the Royal Albert Hall in London, performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the London Symphony Orchestra. The performance was a huge success, and Koutnik received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Over the years, Koutnik has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the Vienna Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with many renowned conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Valery Gergiev. Koutnik's repertoire is vast and includes works by some of the greatest composers in classical music history, including Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, and Rachmaninoff. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Czech composers, such as Dvorak and Janacek. In addition to his performances, Koutnik is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught masterclasses at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School in New York and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Koutnik has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2010, he was awarded the prestigious International Classical Music Award for his recording of Dvorak's Piano Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also been awarded the Order of Merit by the Czech Republic for his contributions to classical music. Despite his success, Koutnik remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach, and his passion for classical music is evident in everything he does.
