Delme Bryn-Jones was a renowned classical music artist who made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born on 22nd September 1925 in Cardiff, Wales. His father was a musician, and he grew up in a musical family. Delme showed an interest in music from a young age and started playing the cello when he was just six years old. Delme received his early education at the Cardiff High School for Boys. He then went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he was awarded a scholarship. He studied under the guidance of William Pleeth, a renowned cellist, and teacher. Delme's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and he quickly established himself as a promising young musician. After completing his studies, Delme joined the London Symphony Orchestra as a cellist. He played with the orchestra for several years and gained valuable experience performing with some of the world's most talented musicians. In 1952, he was appointed as the principal cellist of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for over a decade. During his time with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Delme became known for his exceptional talent and musicality. He was a regular soloist with the orchestra and performed in many of their concerts and recordings. He also collaborated with other musicians and composers, including Benjamin Britten, who wrote his Cello Symphony specifically for Delme. In 1964, Delme left the BBC Symphony Orchestra to pursue a solo career. He continued to perform as a soloist and chamber musician, and his reputation as a world-class cellist continued to grow. He performed in many of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Royal Albert Hall in London. Delme's talent and dedication to music were recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1970, he was awarded the OBE (Order of the British Empire) for his services to music. He was also awarded the CBE (Commander of the British Empire) in 1985. In 1991, he was awarded the Queen's Medal for Music, which is awarded to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the world of music in the UK. Delme continued to perform and teach until his death in 1997. He was a beloved figure in the world of music, and his legacy continues to inspire and influence musicians today. His recordings and performances are still widely admired and studied, and his contribution to the world of music will always be remembered.
