Born on May 15, 1975, in New York City, Vanderpoel showed an early interest in music. His parents, who were both music enthusiasts, encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Vanderpoel began his musical journey by learning to play the piano at the age of six. He quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument and began to take lessons from a local music teacher. As he grew older, Vanderpoel became more interested in classical music and started to explore other instruments. At the age of 12, Vanderpoel began to learn the cello.
