He became a popular performer on the vaudeville circuit and recorded several albums with his band, the George Hamilton Green Novelty Orchestra. Green's compositions were heavily influenced by jazz and ragtime music, and he is best known for his works for the xylophone. His most famous composition is "The Rainbow of the Delta Tau Delta," which was written in 1924 and is still performed by xylophonists today. Other notable works include "Ragtime Robin," "Xylophonia," and "The Whistler and His Dog." In addition to his work as a composer and performer, Green was also a teacher and wrote several instructional books on percussion and xylophone playing.
