Bill Woodworth was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a classical pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Woodworth showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. As a child, Woodworth was homeschooled and spent much of his time practicing the piano. He was also exposed to a wide range of classical music, which helped to shape his musical tastes and style. By the age of ten, Woodworth had already performed in several local concerts and had won several awards for his piano playing. In 1996, Woodworth was accepted into the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he studied under the renowned pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky. During his time at Juilliard, Woodworth continued to excel in his piano playing and won several competitions, including the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in 2001. After graduating from Juilliard, Woodworth went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied under the pianist Gary Graffman. While at Curtis, Woodworth continued to perform in concerts and competitions, and in 2005, he won the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world. Following his win at the Van Cliburn Competition, Woodworth began to receive international recognition for his piano playing. He was invited to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He also began to record albums, with his first album, "Bill Woodworth Plays Chopin," being released in 2007. Over the years, Woodworth has continued to perform in concerts and competitions around the world. He has won numerous awards for his piano playing, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2010 and the Gilmore Artist Award in 2014. He has also been a guest artist at several music festivals, including the Aspen Music Festival and the Tanglewood Music Festival. In addition to his career as a pianist, Woodworth is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at several music schools, including the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music, and has given masterclasses around the world. He is known for his passionate and engaging teaching style, and many of his students have gone on to have successful careers in music. Throughout his career, Woodworth has remained committed to promoting classical music and inspiring the next generation of musicians.
