Cor Fuhler is a Dutch-born composer and improviser who has made a name for himself in the world of contemporary classical music. Born in 1964 in the town of Leiden, Fuhler grew up in a musical family and began playing the piano at a young age. He later studied classical piano at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where he developed a deep appreciation for the works of composers such as Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin. After completing his studies, Fuhler began to explore the world of experimental music, drawing inspiration from the works of avant-garde composers such as John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen. He began to experiment with electronic music, using synthesizers and other electronic instruments to create new and innovative sounds. In the early 1990s, Fuhler moved to Australia, where he became involved in the country's vibrant experimental music scene. He began to collaborate with other musicians, including the improvisational group The Necks, and he also formed his own ensemble, Corkestra, which combined elements of jazz, classical music, and electronic music. Fuhler's compositions are known for their complex and intricate structures, as well as their use of unconventional instruments and sounds. He has created works for a variety of ensembles, including string quartets, wind ensembles, and electronic ensembles. Some of his most notable works include "Piano Trio No. 1," "String Quartet No. 2," and "Electronic Symphony No. 1." In addition to his work as a composer, Fuhler is also an accomplished improviser. He has performed with a number of improvisational groups, including the Amsterdam-based group ICP Orchestra, and he has also released several solo albums showcasing his improvisational skills.
