Jesse Greer was an American composer and pianist who was born on December 12, 1896, in New York City. He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. His father, William Greer, was a violinist and his mother, Lillian Greer, was a pianist. Jesse Greer showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at a young age. Greer studied music at the Institute of Musical Art (now known as the Juilliard School) in New York City. He was a talented pianist and composer and quickly gained recognition for his skills. In 1916, he made his debut as a pianist at Carnegie Hall, performing his own composition, "The Juggler." During World War I, Greer served in the United States Army as a musician. He played the piano and conducted the army band. After the war, he returned to New York City and continued his career as a composer and pianist. Greer composed music for Broadway shows, including "The Greenwich Village Follies" and "The Passing Show." He also wrote music for films, including "The Big Broadcast" and "College Rhythm." His most famous composition is the song "Just You, Just Me," which he wrote in 1929 with lyrics by Raymond Klages. The song has been recorded by many artists, including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nat King Cole. In addition to his work in popular music, Greer also composed classical music. He wrote several orchestral works, including a symphony and a piano concerto. He also wrote chamber music, including a string quartet and a piano trio. Greer was known for his melodic and lyrical style. His music was influenced by the popular music of his time, as well as by classical composers such as Chopin and Debussy. He was also influenced by jazz music, and his compositions often featured syncopated rhythms and bluesy harmonies. Greer continued to compose and perform music throughout his life. He died on December 29, 1949, in New York City at the age of 53. His music continues to be performed and recorded today, and he is remembered as a talented and versatile composer.
