Role:EnsembleA Filetta is a Corsican vocal ensemble that has gained international recognition for its unique blend of traditional Corsican polyphony and contemporary music. The group was founded in 1978 by six friends who shared a passion for Corsican music and culture. Over the years, the ensemble has grown in size and popularity, and has become one of the most respected and influential vocal groups in the world. The founding members of A Filetta were Jean-Claude Acquaviva, Paul Giansily, Jean Sicurani, Maxime Vuillamier, François Aragni, and José Filippi. All of them were born and raised in Corsica, and had been singing Corsican polyphony since childhood. They decided to form a group that would showcase the beauty and richness of Corsican music, and would also explore new ways of interpreting and arranging traditional songs. In the early years, A Filetta performed mainly in Corsica, at local festivals and events. They also recorded their first album, "A U Visu Di Tanti", in 1981, which was well received by critics and audiences alike. The album featured traditional Corsican songs, as well as some original compositions by the members of the group. In 1983, A Filetta was invited to perform at the Festival de la Chanson Française in Paris, which was a major breakthrough for the group. They received critical acclaim for their performance, and were invited to perform at other festivals and events throughout France and Europe. They also recorded their second album, "O Vos Omnes", which was released in 1984 and featured a mix of traditional and contemporary songs. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, A Filetta continued to tour extensively and record new albums. They collaborated with other artists and musicians, and experimented with different styles and genres. They also became known for their innovative use of technology, incorporating electronic instruments and effects into their performances. One of the highlights of A Filetta's career was their collaboration with the French composer Bruno Coulais on the soundtrack for the 2004 animated film "Les Choristes". The soundtrack, which featured several songs performed by A Filetta, became a huge commercial success and won numerous awards, including a César Award for Best Original Music. A Filetta has also received many other awards and honors throughout their career. They have won several Victoires de la Musique awards, which are the most prestigious music awards in France. They have also been awarded the Grand Prix du Disque de l'Académie Charles Cros, the Grand Prix de l'Académie du Disque Français, and the Grand Prix de la SACEM. Today, A Filetta is still going strong, with a core group of eight members and several other musicians who join them for performances and recordings. They continue to explore new ways of interpreting and arranging traditional Corsican songs, and to collaborate with other artists and musicians from around the world. They have released over 20 albums, and have performed in countless concerts and festivals in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. A Filetta's music is characterized by its haunting harmonies, intricate rhythms, and powerful emotional impact. Their songs often deal with themes of love, loss, and the beauty of nature, and are sung in the Corsican language. Their music has been described as "timeless" and "transcendent", and has touched the hearts of audiences around the world.More....
