Artist Info
I Virtuosi Della Rotonda is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1991 in Vicenza, Italy. The group is known for its exceptional performances of Baroque and Classical music, and has gained a reputation as one of the finest ensembles of its kind in Europe. The ensemble was founded by a group of musicians who shared a passion for early music and a desire to bring it to a wider audience. The founding members included violinist and artistic director Alberto Martini, cellist Marco Scano, and harpsichordist and organist Giuseppe Schinaia. Over the years, the ensemble has grown to include a number of other talented musicians, including flutist Andrea Griminelli, oboist Paolo Grazia, and bassoonist Sergio Azzolini. One of the highlights of I Virtuosi Della Rotonda's early career was their performance at the 1992 Festival of Early Music in Utrecht, Netherlands. The ensemble's performance of works by Vivaldi, Handel, and Bach was met with critical acclaim, and helped to establish the group as a major force in the world of early music. Since then, I Virtuosi Della Rotonda has gone on to perform at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals in Europe and beyond. They have performed at the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the BBC Proms, among others. They have also collaborated with some of the world's leading conductors and soloists, including Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Cecilia Bartoli, and Maxim Vengerov. One of the ensemble's most notable performances was their 2006 concert at the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza, which was broadcast live on Italian television. The concert featured works by Vivaldi, Handel, and Bach, as well as lesser-known composers such as Giovanni Benedetto Platti and Johann Friedrich Fasch. The concert was a huge success, and helped to cement I Virtuosi Della Rotonda's reputation as one of the finest early music ensembles in the world. In addition to their performances, I Virtuosi Della Rotonda has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1996, they were awarded the prestigious Premio Abbiati by the Italian music critics' association, and in 2001 they received the Echo Klassik award for their recording of Vivaldi's Four Seasons. They have also been nominated for several Grammy Awards, and have won the Diapason d'Or and the Choc de la Musique awards for their recordings. Despite their many achievements, I Virtuosi Della Rotonda remains committed to their mission of bringing early music to a wider audience. They continue to perform regularly at festivals and concert halls around the world, and have also released a number of recordings that showcase their exceptional musicianship and artistry. With their passion for early music and their dedication to excellence, I Virtuosi Della Rotonda is sure to remain a major force in the world of classical music for many years to come.More....
