The Herrick Trio is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of musical styles and virtuosic performances for over a decade. The trio consists of three talented musicians: violinist Rebecca Harris, cellist Michael Kannen, and pianist Yael Weiss. Together, they have established themselves as one of the most dynamic and exciting chamber music groups in the world. The Herrick Trio was founded in 2006, when Rebecca Harris and Michael Kannen met while performing at the Marlboro Music Festival in Vermont. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and decided to form a trio with pianist Yael Weiss. The trio takes its name from the Herrick House, a historic building on the Marlboro campus where they first rehearsed together. Rebecca Harris, the group's violinist, is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Baltimore Symphony. Michael Kannen, the cellist, is a founding member of the Brentano String Quartet and has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras and chamber music groups. Yael Weiss, the pianist, is a graduate of the Juilliard School and has performed as a soloist with orchestras around the world. The Herrick Trio has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Ravinia Festival, and the Edinburgh Festival. They have also collaborated with some of the most renowned musicians of our time, including violinist Pamela Frank, clarinetist David Shifrin, and pianist Leon Fleisher. One of the highlights of the Herrick Trio's career was their performance at the 2010 Chamber Music America Conference, where they were awarded the prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award. This award is given annually to a young chamber music ensemble that shows exceptional promise and has the potential to make a significant impact on the world of classical music. The Herrick Trio was the first piano trio to receive this award in over a decade. In addition to their performances, the Herrick Trio is also committed to education and outreach. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops at universities and music schools around the world, and have worked with young musicians through programs such as the National Youth Orchestra of the United States and the New York Youth Symphony.
