Joan Ribalta was born on May 15, 1985, in Barcelona, Spain. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a pianist and his mother a cellist. From a young age, Ribalta showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He later picked up the violin and the viola, which would become his primary instruments. Ribalta's musical education began at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, where he studied under the guidance of renowned violist Ashan Pillai. He later continued his studies at the Royal College of Music in London, where he received a scholarship to study with violist Lawrence Power. Throughout his career, Ribalta has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with many renowned conductors, such as Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Gustavo Dudamel. One of Ribalta's most notable performances was his solo debut at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2010. He performed the Walton Viola Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, receiving critical acclaim for his virtuosic playing and emotional depth. In addition to his solo performances, Ribalta is also an active chamber musician. He has performed with many esteemed ensembles, including the Belcea Quartet and the Nash Ensemble.
