Emmy Greger was a renowned classical music artist who was born on May 12, 1926, in Vienna, Austria. She was the daughter of a prominent Austrian conductor and composer, and her mother was a talented pianist. From a young age, Emmy showed a keen interest in music and began taking piano lessons at the age of four. Emmy's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She attended the Vienna Academy of Music, where she studied piano, composition, and conducting. She also studied under some of the most prominent musicians of the time, including Wilhelm Furtwängler and Bruno Walter. In 1945, Emmy made her debut as a pianist, performing with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Her performance was well-received, and she quickly gained a reputation as a talented and skilled musician. Over the next few years, she performed extensively throughout Europe, playing with some of the most prestigious orchestras and conductors. In 1950, Emmy moved to the United States, where she continued to perform and teach music. She quickly became a sought-after pianist, performing with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, among others. She also began teaching at the Juilliard School of Music, where she remained for over 30 years. Throughout her career, Emmy received numerous awards and accolades for her contributions to classical music. In 1956, she was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize, which recognizes outstanding achievement in classical music. She was also awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1986, the highest honor given to artists by the United States government. Emmy's performances were known for their technical precision and emotional depth. She was particularly renowned for her interpretations of the works of Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert. Her recordings of these composers' works remain some of the most highly-regarded in the classical music canon. Emmy continued to perform and teach music until her death in 2000.
