Richard Tiven was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Tiven showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Tiven's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly developed his skills. By the age of ten, Tiven had already performed in several concerts and had won several awards in local competitions. In 1997, Tiven was accepted into the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he continued his studies under the guidance of renowned pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky. During his time at Juilliard, Tiven won several awards, including the prestigious Gina Bachauer Piano Scholarship. After completing his studies at Juilliard, Tiven went on to attend the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied with renowned pianist Gary Graffman. While at Curtis, Tiven won several awards, including the Curtis Institute of Music Piano Concerto Competition. Tiven's career as a concert pianist began to take off in the early 2000s. He made his debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2002, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was a huge success, and Tiven received rave reviews from critics. Over the next few years, Tiven performed with several major orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He also performed at several major music festivals, including the Tanglewood Music Festival and the Ravinia Festival. In 2006, Tiven released his debut album, which featured works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt. The album received critical acclaim and helped to establish Tiven as one of the leading pianists of his generation. In addition to his career as a concert pianist, Tiven is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at several prestigious music schools, including the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music. Many of his students have gone on to have successful careers as pianists. Throughout his career, Tiven has received numerous awards and honors. In 2008, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a major career in music. He has also been awarded the Gilmore Young Artist Award and the Arthur Rubinstein Prize. Despite his success, Tiven remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform regularly and is always looking for new ways to challenge himself as a musician. His passion for music and his dedication to his art have made him one of the most respected and admired pianists of his generation.
