Role:ComposerBirth:1929Period:RenaissanceContemporaryModernGenre:ChoralSiegfried Strohbach was a German composer born on January 12, 1929, in Leipzig, Germany. He was the youngest of three children born to a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Strohbach showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Strohbach's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began studying piano and composition at the Leipzig Conservatory at the age of 14. He studied under some of the most prominent composers of the time, including Johann Nepomuk David and Günter Raphael. After completing his studies, Strohbach began working as a freelance composer and pianist. He quickly gained a reputation for his innovative compositions and virtuosic piano playing. In 1953, he was awarded the prestigious Mendelssohn Prize for his Piano Sonata No. 1. Strohbach's early works were heavily influenced by the music of Bach and Beethoven. He was particularly interested in the contrapuntal techniques used by these composers and incorporated them into his own compositions. His Piano Sonata No. 2, which he composed in 1956, is a prime example of this style. In the 1960s, Strohbach began experimenting with electronic music. He was fascinated by the possibilities offered by this new medium and began incorporating electronic sounds into his compositions. His Symphony No. 3, which he composed in 1968, is a groundbreaking work that combines traditional orchestral instruments with electronic sounds. Strohbach's music was not always well-received by critics. Some accused him of being too experimental and avant-garde. However, his music was popular with audiences, and he continued to compose and perform throughout his career. One of Strohbach's most famous works is his Piano Concerto No. 2, which he composed in 1975. The concerto is a virtuosic tour-de-force that showcases Strohbach's incredible piano playing. It has been performed by some of the world's most renowned pianists, including Martha Argerich and Vladimir Ashkenazy. Strohbach continued to compose and perform until his death in 1999. He left behind a legacy of innovative and groundbreaking music that continues to inspire musicians and audiences today.More....
