Gerald McKey was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, McKey showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. McKey's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist and teacher, Maria Rodriguez, at the age of six. Under her guidance, McKey quickly developed his skills and began performing in local concerts and competitions. At the age of 12, McKey won first prize in the New York State Piano Competition, which marked the beginning of his professional career. He continued to win numerous awards and competitions throughout his teenage years, including the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition at the age of 18. After graduating from high school, McKey attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist, Vladimir Horowitz. He also began collaborating with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. In 2005, McKey released his debut album, which featured works by Chopin, Liszt, and Beethoven. The album was a critical and commercial success, and McKey was praised for his technical skill and emotional depth. Over the years, McKey has continued to push the boundaries of classical music, collaborating with artists from other genres and experimenting with new forms of expression.
