Role:EnsembleEnsemble 44 is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2014 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in New York City and is known for its innovative programming and dynamic performances. The founding members of Ensemble 44 were violinist Christina Bouey, violist John Stulz, cellist Hannah Collins, and pianist Max Barros. All four musicians had extensive experience performing in various orchestras and chamber groups, and they came together with the goal of creating a new ensemble that would showcase their individual talents and unique musical perspectives. From the beginning, Ensemble 44 was committed to exploring a wide range of repertoire, from the classical masters to contemporary composers. The ensemble's name is a nod to the fact that there are 44 strings in a standard string quartet, and the group often performs as a quartet or with additional musicians as needed. One of the highlights of Ensemble 44's early years was their debut performance at the Tenri Cultural Institute in New York City in 2015. The program featured works by Mozart, Brahms, and Dvorak, as well as a world premiere by composer David Ludwig. The concert was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and it set the tone for the ensemble's future performances. Over the years, Ensemble 44 has continued to push the boundaries of chamber music, collaborating with a diverse range of artists and composers. In 2017, the ensemble premiered a new work by composer and jazz pianist Vijay Iyer at the Ecstatic Music Festival in New York City. The piece, titled "Radhe Radhe: Rites of Holi," was inspired by the Hindu festival of Holi and featured a unique blend of classical and jazz elements. Ensemble 44 has also been recognized for their outstanding performances and recordings. In 2018, the ensemble's debut album, "The Soldier's Tale," was released to critical acclaim. The album features a performance of Stravinsky's iconic work, as well as a new arrangement of the piece by composer and Ensemble 44 member Max Barros. In addition to their performances and recordings, Ensemble 44 is committed to education and outreach. The ensemble has worked with students at the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music, and they have also performed for audiences at schools and community centers throughout New York City. Looking to the future, Ensemble 44 is poised to continue their innovative and dynamic approach to chamber music. The ensemble has several upcoming performances and collaborations in the works, and they are committed to bringing their unique musical perspective to audiences around the world.More....
