Role:Composer ConductorRob Deemer is a contemporary classical music composer, educator, and advocate for diversity in the arts. He was born on August 28, 1970, in Buffalo, New York, and grew up in a musical family. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a singer and music teacher. Deemer began playing the piano at the age of five and later learned to play the trumpet and guitar. Deemer attended the State University of New York at Fredonia, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition in 1992. He then went on to earn a Master of Music degree in Composition from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in 1994. During his time at Cincinnati, Deemer studied with composers Joel Hoffman and Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon. After completing his studies, Deemer worked as a freelance composer and music educator. He taught music theory and composition at the University of Cincinnati and the University of Buffalo. He also served as the Director of Music at the Nichols School in Buffalo from 1999 to 2005. Deemer's compositions have been performed by numerous ensembles and orchestras, including the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Youth Symphony. His works have also been featured at festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival and the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music. One of Deemer's most notable works is his Symphony No. 1, which was commissioned by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and premiered in 2007. The symphony is a tribute to the city of Buffalo and its history, and it incorporates elements of jazz and rock music.
