From a young age, Hibbard showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Hibbard's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue music seriously. He began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist and teacher, Maria João Pires, at the age of six. Pires quickly recognized Hibbard's potential and took him under her wing, becoming his mentor and guiding him through his musical journey. Hibbard's talent continued to flourish under Pires' tutelage, and he began performing in public at the age of eight. He made his debut with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of ten, playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor. The performance was a huge success, and Hibbard received a standing ovation from the audience. Over the years, Hibbard continued to perform in public, both as a soloist and as part of various ensembles. He won numerous awards and accolades for his performances, including the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2005. Hibbard's performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor at the competition was hailed as a masterpiece, and he was awarded first prize.
