Ensemble Meridiana is a classical music ensemble that specializes in the performance of Baroque music. The ensemble was founded in 2004 by two musicians, the recorder player Sabine Stoffer and the harpsichordist Tiziano Teodori. The ensemble takes its name from the Latin word for "meridian," which refers to the imaginary line that divides the earth into eastern and western hemispheres. The main members of Ensemble Meridiana are Sabine Stoffer (recorder), Tiziano Teodori (harpsichord), Sarah Humphrys (violin), and Manuel de Grange (cello). The ensemble also collaborates with other musicians on a project-by-project basis. Ensemble Meridiana has performed at many prestigious venues and festivals throughout Europe, including the Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht, the Festival de Musique Ancienne de Callas, the Festival de Musique Baroque de Pontoise, and the Tage Alter Musik in Regensburg. The ensemble has also performed in the United States, Canada, and South America. One of the highlights of Ensemble Meridiana's career was their performance at the Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht in 2006. The ensemble performed a program of music by the Italian composer Giovanni Battista Fontana, which was very well received by the audience and critics alike. The ensemble was praised for their virtuosity and their ability to bring the music to life. Ensemble Meridiana has also received several awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 2008, the ensemble won the first prize at the International Early Music Competition in Nuremberg, Germany. The ensemble was also awarded the prestigious Diapason d'Or for their recording of music by the French composer Jean-Marie Leclair. Ensemble Meridiana's repertoire includes music from the Baroque period, with a particular focus on Italian and French music. The ensemble's performances are characterized by their virtuosity, their attention to detail, and their ability to bring the music to life. The ensemble's recordings have been praised for their clarity, their sensitivity, and their musicality.
