The Daphne Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2008. The ensemble is made up of a group of highly skilled musicians who are dedicated to performing classical music at the highest level. The ensemble is named after the Greek mythological figure Daphne, who was transformed into a laurel tree to escape the advances of the god Apollo. The founding members of the Daphne Ensemble were violinist Anna Lim and cellist Tan Wei Ting. Both musicians had previously performed together in various chamber music groups and had a shared passion for classical music. They decided to form the Daphne Ensemble with the goal of creating a chamber music group that would showcase the beauty and complexity of classical music. Over the years, the Daphne Ensemble has grown to include a number of other talented musicians, including pianist Abigail Sin, violist Zhang Manchin, and clarinetist Zhang Jin Min. Each member of the ensemble brings their own unique style and perspective to the group, creating a dynamic and engaging performance experience. One of the highlights of the Daphne Ensemble's career was their performance at the Singapore International Chamber Music Festival in 2010. The festival is one of the most prestigious classical music events in Asia, and the Daphne Ensemble was honored to be invited to perform. Their performance was met with critical acclaim, and they were praised for their technical skill and emotional depth. In addition to their performance at the Singapore International Chamber Music Festival, the Daphne Ensemble has also performed at a number of other prestigious venues and events. They have performed at the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, and the Hong Kong Arts Festival, among others. The Daphne Ensemble has also been recognized for their outstanding performances with a number of awards and accolades. In 2012, they were awarded the Young Artist Award by the National Arts Council of Singapore, which recognizes young artists who have shown exceptional talent and promise in their field. They were also awarded the Best Performance of a Singaporean Composition at the Singapore International Chamber Music Festival in 2014.
