Lynne Aspnes is a renowned classical harpist who has made significant contributions to the world of music through her performances, recordings, and teaching. Born in 1953 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Aspnes grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from an early age. Her mother was a pianist, and her father played the trumpet, which inspired Aspnes to pursue a career in music. Aspnes began playing the harp at the age of 12 and quickly developed a passion for the instrument. She studied with renowned harpists such as Alice Chalifoux and Susann McDonald and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan and a Master of Music degree from the University of Arizona. Aspnes' career as a professional harpist began in the 1970s when she joined the Tucson Symphony Orchestra as their principal harpist. She also performed with other orchestras such as the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra and the Minnesota Orchestra. Aspnes' talent and dedication to her craft quickly earned her recognition in the music world, and she was invited to perform at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. In addition to her work as an orchestral musician, Aspnes has also made a name for herself as a soloist and chamber musician. She has performed with numerous ensembles, including the Minnesota Orchestra Chamber Players, the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music, and the American Harp Society. Aspnes has also released several solo albums, including "Harp Music of the Americas" and "Harp Music of France." In 1992, she was awarded the McKnight Fellowship for Performing Musicians, which recognizes outstanding musicians in Minnesota. In addition to her work as a performer, Aspnes is also a dedicated teacher and has taught at several universities, including the University of Arizona and the University of Minnesota.
